Achieving better characterisation of geology, structure, temperature, micro-seismicity and rock behaviour at EGS sites                   $700.00

Presenters:  Desmond FitzGerald, Chloe Bonet, Helen Gibson (Intrepid Geophysics) & other expert guests

Who should attend the course?
Geologists, Geophysicists, Engineers, Geotechnical scientists. Anyone with an interest in innovative concepts and methods for exploration and development of EGS. Approximately ½ of the day will comprise technical presentations, and ½ will be led-tutorials where each participant will work with data to perform modelling and interpretation exercises on their own laptop computers.

8.45  Installation Licensing of 3D GeoModeller software
9.15  Introduction The geothermal project site exploration & development challenges
  9.45  Presentation
Mapping and model-building for EGS project sites. (Including interpolation methods for sparse     geological data)
10.35  Demonstration Overview of a ready-prepared geology model (EGS geothermal)
 10.50  Exercise
Add more geological data to your geology model. Geo-register a map-image, digitize geological data, compute the 3D geology model, render 2D and 3D views.
11.50  Presentation Principles of heat flow, physical properties assignment in your model.
 12.10  Exercise
Direct calculation of 3D temperatures, heat flow & temperature gradients in your geology model for the steady-state, assuming simple conductive heat flow.
  2.00  Presentation
Managing and interpreting processed induced micro-seismic data sets for the purpose of structural and geological interpretation.
  2.20
Exercise Filter and visualize micro-seismic data in a 3D geology workspace
3.45  Presentation High pressure rock behaviour, and fractures in nature.
  4.30  Presentation
Modelling fault networks (including exporting tetrahedron meshes of faults and geology, ready for fluid flow stimulation)
  4.50  Presentation
Refining 3D geology models with geophysical data.

You will receive printed course notes, a CD containing tutorials and data files, a 4 week software license for 3D geoModeller.
